James D. Stewart joined the Mississippi State Department of Health in 2013, serving as the Director of the STD/HIV Office before becoming Director of the Communicable Disease Office in 2017. He holds a Ph. D. in Political Science from Louisiana State University and a Master of Business Administration from Millsaps College. Before coming to MSDH, he was Associate Professor and Dean of Social Sciences at Tougaloo College and an Assistant Professor at Mississippi College.
