Cardiovascular disease, including heart disease and stroke, is the leading cause of death in Mississippi, accounting for over a third of all deaths in the state. Mississippi's CVD mortality rate remains the highest in the nation.
The Mission of the Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention Program is to promote and protect the cardiovascular health of the citizens of Mississippi.
To prevent, manage, and reduce the risk factors associated with heart disease and stroke by implementing health system interventions to improve effective delivery of care, community-clinical linkages to support prevention and management of high blood pressure and diabetes, and collecting and analyzing data to guide work.
